Forensic Files: “Fate Date”

This landmark series, produced by Medstar Television, pioneered science-based criminal investigation docudramas. Its website states it profiles “puzzling, often baffling cases whose riddles are ultimately solved by forensic detection.”

Michael Ray Brown researched and wrote the script, conducted interviews, directed reenactments and B-roll, logged the shots, and worked shoulder-to-shoulder with the editor on the rough cut. They were in Tulsa on the first day of spring when a freak blizzard threw a monkey wrench into their schedule. Michael persuaded two detectives to come out into the sleet on their day off, secured a tavern for shooting at the last minute, and cast six actors for the reenactment… all in the space of just two hours.
